For example, a high speed screw or a DC motor would be unsuitable for heavy duty applications, where an electrical motor would be much more suited to the job.
When it comes to maintenance, the only thing you need to worry about with a direct motor is to keep it lubricated. You should never allow the lubricant to run dry, but instead use oil in order to prevent the motor from wearing out. This can be achieved by using grease in your engine oil, which is then supplied to the motor by a pump. A good lubricant should also be used in transmission oil as well.
One problem that you need to be aware of when it comes to direct drives is that they are not very suitable for use with gasoline engines as they create a lot of friction in the motor, causing it to lose efficiency. However, if your engine is diesel then it should be possible to run a gasoline motor with a DC motor with a direct drive. This is because diesel engines are more efficient than petrol engines with a DC motor, but also tend to be more expensive.
